In northern Shan State, Tantyan Township, 45 individuals involved in online scamming operations, including 18 Chinese and 27 Myanmar nationals, were arrested along with firearms and related equipment.
The military junta announced on December 6 that charges have been filed under Section 33(a) of the Electronic Communications Law and Section 13(1) of the Immigration Act.
The arrests occurred during a raid at a house in Naung Hee village on December 2, around 1 PM. Items seized included two pistols, two long-barrel firearms, ammunition, and equipment used in online scamming operations. The detainees consist of 18 Chinese men, 17 Myanmar men, and 10 Myanmar women.
Tantyan is located near the Wa autonomous region and serves as a key gateway to the area. The town has seen significant military activity, including operations in July when Wa forces entered the township during the second phase of Operation 1027.
Similarly, in September, 358 Chinese nationals and 557 Myanmar nationals involved in online scams were arrested in Muse. The Chinese detainees were handed over to Chinese authorities via the Yunnan border on September 26.
