The Committee for the Supervision of the Import, Storage, and Distribution of Fuel under the Military Council has increased the fuel prices this week by 45 to 125 Kyats per liter compared to the previous week. It has been reported that some gas stations in Yangon have seen queues forming as a result.
August 25th to 29th, the retail prices of fuel in Yangon were set at 2,975 Kyats per liter for 92 petrol, 3,115 Kyats for 95 petrol, 2,610 Kyats for diesel, and 3,200 Kyats for premium diesel. However, as of today, the prices have risen to 3,100 Kyats per liter for 92 petrol, 3,240 Kyats for 95 petrol, 2,655 Kyats for diesel, and 3,295 Kyats for premium diesel.
As a result, petrol prices have increased by up to 125 Kyats per liter, while diesel prices have risen by 45 Kyats per liter and premium diesel by up to 95 Kyats per liter.
A taxi driver in Yangon mentioned, “Fuel prices have gone up again, and there were queues for fuel again this morning. It’s not at every station, though. Fuel is still available, but some stations have queues of around 40 to 60 vehicles.”
Since July 29th, there have been fuel shortages, limited availability of purchases, and situations where people had to queue overnight at gas stations in major cities, including Yangon, Naypyidaw, and Mandalay.
