Kachin State shares a border with Arunachal Pradesh, India, making it a strategic region for bilateral relations. Strengthening ties in this region is crucial for fostering economic development, cultural exchange, and improved connectivity between the two nations.

In recent months, Ambassador Thakur has actively participated in diplomatic engagements across Myanmar. Notably, in January 2025, he visited Sittwe Port in Rakhine State to assess operations related to the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project. During that visit, he met with Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin to discuss joint development projects and initiatives under the Rakhine State development plan.

Since its opening in May 2023, the port has handled over 150 cargo vessels, transporting goods like rice, medicines, fuel, vehicles, and construction materials.
