The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has reportedly captured a military base belonging to the junta near Bhamo.
The Kaung Ja Yan military base is located on the Bhamo-Mansi road and serves as a strategic outpost for the junta’s Light Infantry Battalions 319 and 601 stationed in Mansi. After the KIA captured this base, the junta launched airstrikes in retaliation, dropping bombs on the Kaung Ja Yan base as well as nearby villages such as Moemauk and 7-Mile. Additionally, the junta’s artillery units fired heavy weapons towards these areas.
Within Bhamo, several key military units are stationed, including the No. 21 Military Operation Command Headquarters (MOC-21), the Military Security Affairs Unit (SaYaPa), Light Infantry Battalions 47, 236, and 237, No. 933 Transportation Battalion, No. 11 Field Medical Battalion, No. 5 Signal Battalion, No. 314 and 366 Artillery Battalions, No. 5014 Tank Battalion, No. 7006 Armored Unit, No. 914 Military Engineer Battalion, and No. 944 Construction Engineering Detachment.
Previously, on August 19, the KIA had also captured the junta’s Garrison Battalion 437 in Moemauk, resulting in the deaths of numerous junta soldiers and the seizure of a significant amount of weaponry, including armored vehicles.
