MAI Expands Mandalay-Chiang Mai Direct Flights
Myanmar Airways International (MAI) has announced an expansion of its direct flights between Mandalay and Chiang Mai, strengthening connectivity between Myanmar and Thailand. The move comes in response to increasing demand for seamless travel between the two cities.
With this expansion, MAI aims to provide more convenient flight options for travelers, whether for business, tourism, or family visits. The direct route reduces travel time and eliminates the need for layovers, making it a preferred choice for passengers.
MAI will add the new Mandalay-Chiang Mai route to its international network by 2025, making it the fourth route the airline operates via Mandalay International Airport.
To mark the launch, officials welcomed the aircraft with a water salute at Mandalay International Airport and Chiang Mai International Airport, while crew members distributed special gifts to passengers on board.
The MAI will operate the new Mandalay-Chiang Mai route every Monday and Friday starting February 10. It has completed the renewal of its IATA (IOSA) certification, the most stringent requirement in the global aviation industry, and is continuing to enhance its passenger safety processes.
The airline has been certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) since 2012. This renewal reflects MAI’s commitment to excellent flight operations and passenger safety.
The IOSA Program globally recognizes airlines for meeting rigorous aviation safety audit standards.
The IOSA sets a global industry standard for assessing an airline’s safety management system and quality assurance. It also evaluates operational management across all aspects of aviation operations.
Passing this most difficult assessment for any airline is a remarkable business achievement. All IATA member airlines must undergo a biennial assessment to verify compliance with the highest civil aviation standards. This ensures consistent adherence to safety, security, and operational excellence. This requirement is mandatory for all members.
