SAC airstrike on Maungdaw town, injuring four and houses were set on fire

An airstrike by SAC, military junta, jet fighters on Maungdaw town, Rakhine State, injured four local residents, and some houses were destroyed by fire.

The injured due to the airstrike include U Kyaw Maung, an 80-year-old resident from Ward 1 of Maungdaw town, U Tun Tun (53) from Ale Village, U Ba Hla (62) from Waimala in Ward 3, and one unidentified local resident, according to local sources.

According to an eyewitness, the military junta conducted bombing raids on various parts of Maungdaw town using two jet fighters at around 9 a.m. on August 21, followed by a Y-12 aircraft around 3 p.m., and again with a jet fighter at around 7 p.m., resulting in injuries to four civilians.

An airstrike on the town injured two elderly people and two middle-aged individuals. Bombs hit residential areas, with bomb fragments impacting various parts of people’s bodies. Some suffered injuries to their hands and feet and are receiving emergency medical treatment,” he said.

The injured are currently undergoing emergency medical treatment. It is reported that they are among the Rakhine, Muslim, and Hindu people trapped in Maungdaw town, who remained for various reasons while the Arakan Army (AA) was rescuing those trapped.

A local Muslim resident also mentioned that the military council conducted airstrikes almost the entire day on Maungdaw town on August 22, causing some houses to catch fire.

“Houses in Feizi Village, around the clock tower, and in some neighborhoods were reported to have caught fire,” he said.

It is also reported that jet fighters from the military council repeatedly dropped bombs from dawn until after 5 p.m. yesterday on Maungdaw town and the surrounding areas near NAKHA-5.

It is understood that the Arakan Army (AA) has been conducting intense attacks on NAKHA-5 near Maungdaw town, while the military council is vigorously defending from the air.
