Today, August 20, the Military Council carried out an airstrike on Lwepanchaung Village in the northern part of Kale Township, where the majority of residents are Chin. They also launched ground assaults in the southern villages of Kale Township, burning down local homes, according to reports from residents.

In the morning of August 20, clashes between the Military Council troops and the CNDF occurred for about an hour when the troops advanced from Sekan Village to Sar Taw Village in southern Kale Township. Following the clashes, the Military Council forces set fire to homes in Shar Taw Village and continued to advance to Thone Eain Su Village, where they also burned down more houses.

A local resident reported, ‘The military is advancing on villages in southern Kale, burning houses in Sar Taw and Thone Eain Su, and they also bombed Lwepanchaung Village by air.’ Due to the military’s ground offensive, residents are fleeing to safety, and it’s still unclear how many houses have been destroyed by fire. Since around April 5, during the clashes in northern Kale Township, the military has burned down thousands of homes in villages along the Kale-Lwepanchaung-Razagyo road. As a result, most of the villagers have become displaced and have not been able to return to their homes.
